There are so many different types of signal boosters and they can be broadly classified into two, that is, commercial signal booster and consumer signal booster. As the name suggests, commercial signal boosters are used in large industries and commercial buildings while consumer signal boosters are made for small offices, homes, etc. However, there is no change in the basic functioning of these devices because both of them use the same technology and components to boost the signal strength in an area. Some of the identifiable differences between the mobile signal boosters used in commercial places and consumer spaces are as follows.

Outside Antenna

We can see a large difference in the outside antenna used in commercial and consumer signal boosters. Most of the small signal booster systems use omni directional or yagi antenna considering their geographical structure and the distance from the cell tower. On the other hand, the commercial signal boosters use only the yagi antenna and it will be placed in the direction of the nearest cell tower. The size of the antenna will also be different in both categories. To procure more signals, industrial boosters use a bigger antenna when compared to consumer devices.

Inside Antenna

There are some changes in the designs of the inside antenna used in public and private places. In consumer mobile booster devices, there will be only a single antenna to broadcast the signals to the whole place. On the other hand, most of the commercial booster systems are equipped with multiple antennas to cover a large area. In some cases, there will also be multiple amplifiers along with multiple inside antennae for better performance.

Boosting Mechanism

Mobile signal boosters work by intercepting weak signals from its surrounding and broadcasting strong signals with the help of amplifiers. Most of the consumer devices work using the same mechanism. However, to improve the signal strength or to generate their own mobile signal, some of the commercial devices use broadband internet connection along with the amplifier. These types of boosters are more common in industrial areas located in remote places where the distance to the nearest cell tower is more.

The above mentioned are some of the identifiable differences in the design of cellular signal boosters used in commercial areas and households. In addition to these, all the commercial boosters will be equipped with technologies to boost signals of multiple carriers.
